Scientists and Engineers for America

SEA encourages members of the scientific community to engage in US politics and the policy-making process. Through this year’s Campaign Training program, Virtual Interns and Science Policy Fellows, and our national student coalition, and suggested readings for all SEA members, we have helped prepare scientists and scientists-to-be to run for office and careers in policy.

Featured SEA Student Chapter: Postdoctoral Scholars from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, produce lessons at Brown Elementary School as part of the Ujima Math and Science Fun Network.

“This month we learned about forces (friction, etc.) [and presented] a structural engineering lab, in which we built geodesic dome structures from rolled up paper. We’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback from the community,” SEA Chapter Leader Dr. Wes Edmonds said at a recent Chapter Advisory Board Meeting.

“The goal of the outreach at Brown is to examine the efficacy of inquiry-based education. Alabama has a program that is internationally known for inquiry based pedagogy called AMSTI. We hope to engage the legislature this year to support AMSTI,” SEA Chapter Leader Dr. Marci Wright said.
