Why Form a Chapter?

The energy and scholarship of students is central to our mission, as is training leaders for tomorrow. SEA’s chapters are an integral part of the organization, and serve as a resource for interested individuals to consider and prepare for careers in policy, politics and advocacy.  SEA's student leaders should have:

  • A passion for science, mathematics, or engineering
  • An ability to collaborate with your peers respectfully and confidently
  • An interest in improving relations between the scientific community and the public
  • A desire to influence policy
  • A commitment to influencing US elections by encouraging candidates to speak about science and health issues
  • A firm belief that scientists, engineers, mathematicians and health professionals have a responsiblility to run for elected office
