On January 27, 2009, Reuters reported that the Finance Committee approved $31 billion in tax credits and incentives to boost alternative energy production and promote energy-savings programs as part of President Obama's economic recovery plan. The tax breaks are aimed at helping alternative energy companies that are having a hard time finding financing because of the tighter credit market.
