[edit] Energy
- In his campaign video released on July 6, 2009, Chris Christie highlighted that if elected, he would put great importance on renewable energy. "There is no doubt that renewable energy is our future here in New Jersey," Christie said. "And there is really no better time for us to begin the discussion of not only how we’ll lead energy independence but also how we’ll help create more good paying, middle class jobs in New Jersey."
For detailed plans, Christie stated, "… in the first four years of the Christie administration, we are committed to a five-to-one ratio, five production jobs for every efficiency job in the renewable energy plan." Also, he said, "We will require any landfill that is regulated by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection - whether it’s an ongoing landfill or close one - make solar farms new part of their landscape." Speaking of solar farms, Christie further explained that he would "set aside 20% of all farmland that has been preserved through state funds for solar farms."
- Christie revealed his 8-point energy plan, which includes: installing solar farms at 800 landfill locations, attracting renewable energy manufacturing to NJ via tax breaks, and using reserved farmland for solar panel installation.[1] Christie has spoken about his energy plan at various locations around the state, including at the troubled EPV Solar Inc., the only solar panel manufacturer in New Jersey.[2]
- Christie stated during GOP primary debate that he is willing to consider the construction of windmills off of NJ coast [3]
Christie promises to offer a tax credit up to 100% of the corporate business taxes or the insurance premium tax for any wind turbine and manufacturing facility that locates in New Jersey, a strategy likely to lure manufacturers to the state [4].
[edit] Environment
- Released his environmental protection plan which includes expediting hazardous site remediation, projecting New Jersey's open spaces, and will enhance penalties for violating clean water and ocean pollution laws.
- Chris Christie has stated that he will reduce NJ government spending by minimizing the Department of Environmental Protection through layoffs and ending DEP's fish and wildlife oversight.[5]
- Will appoint scientific advisory committees to evaluate the scientific basis of the Department of Environmental Protection proposals. [6]

- Christie sends daily Twitter updates to approximately 2000 followers. He also maintains an email list, a Facebook page, a Youtube channel, and a Flikr page. Christie has used online videos on his website to release major policy proposals, including his alternative energy plan, and maintains a blog on his campaign website. The full effect of increased online campaigning is not entirely clear, but the active online presence of both candidates is credited with raising the intensity of the New Jersey gubernatorial race early in the season.[9][10]
