Climate Change
- In 2007, Heinrich sponsored the Green Building Ordinance, which required new buildings to meet higher energy efficiency, without significantly increasing the cost. His hope was to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in Albuquerque.

- Having been an engineering student, Heinrich has been involved with clean alternative energy. He favors an Apollo Project for energy independence, in which solar energy is emphasized.
- According to his [1] website, Heinrich believes that "America should be leading the world in developing technologies that will make our country energy independent and end the climate crisis...We should be expanding, not eliminating, solar energy tax credits"
Environment
- Heinrich played an important role in the designation of the Ojito Wilderness. He protected two new Open Space properties in the Sandia Mountains, and helped protect the Valle Vidal from the Bush Administration. He believes in clean environment for future generations.

- Heinrich believes in high-quality, affordable health care, even if it means confronting big insurance companies.
Innovation
- According to a 2007 press release Martin Heinrich believes that encouraging energy independence through the solar tax credit would continue to spur innovation in the field.
