Biography
SAUERBERG, Steve; born in Berwyn, Illinois; attended MacMurray College; attended and received his MD from Rush Medical College; started his own family practice in 1985; and has worked as a family physician for over 25 years.

Energy
Sauerberg has called for an increase in the use of alternative fuels, a continual increase in fuel economy standards, and a decrease in the United States' dependence on foreign oil through increasing the domestic oil supply and capacity of refineries.
Environment
Sauerberg supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) with the enforcement of environmental safeguards. According to his website, he also believes that a clean environment does not contradict with the creation of jobs and economic expansion.

Health
On March 10, 2008, Sauerberg released his health care plan, the "Your Healthcare, Your Choice" plan. He gave a speech at the time of the release (see video), saying"My plan will bring increased competition and will decrease healthcare costs by allowing individuals and families to purchase the health coverage of their choice in any state."[1] The plan includes:
- Allowing people to maintain their health insurance when changing jobs or residences.
- Allowing health insurance to be bought and sold across state boundaries.
- Provide individuals with a $2000 tax rebate and families with a $5000 tax rebate to purchase health insurance credits. Those who do not pay federal income taxes would receive a voucher.
- Giving tax credits to individuals and families whose health care costs do not exceed $1000 and $3000, respectively.
- Imposing penalties on insurance companies which inappropriately deny coverage.
- Establishing an Administrative Health Courts to mitigate health care cases.
- Establishing a Medicare and Medicaid Fraud Task Force to eliminate the $60 billion in fraud that occurs every year.
