Overview of SEA Chapters
Chapters’ leaders and members work with their school’s faculty and administration to bridge the gap between science and politics at a local level. Chapters have hosted energy competitions, run science policy forums, and will prepare this semester to interview members of Congress, and volunteer as science tutors for elementary and middle school students. SEA Student Chapters are fairly autonomous. Each group has their own website where they can chronicle and promote events and accomplishments.
Chapters support each other and develop leadership through SEA’s Chapter Advisory Board (CAB), a group consisting of an elected or appointed representative from each school’s chapter. CAB responsibilities include developing a semester newsletter featuring chapter successes, organizing a speaker series, and planning themed events for the year. At least once each month, members of CAB discuss their progress during a group phone conference with SEA’s Program Director. Select CAB representatives also have the occasional opportunity to report on chapter activities at meetings of the SEA Board of Directors.
